thanksgiving.

We did Thanksgiving as low-key as possible this year; one trip to the grocery store, one dessert made the day before, and a couple hours of preparation the day of. There were only six of us, and we vowed to keep it as simple as possible.

My family has never done traditional Thanksgiving food; there aren't any casseroles and this year, not even a pie. We try to use the same vegetables and colors, but do it our own way.

A few of my favorites were the sage dressing, garlic and rosemary mashed potatoes (the way I learned at The Mill), and spaghetti squash gratin. The tart cranberry sauce goes without saying - I make it consistently throughout cranberry season.

Though I honestly think with the background of the water and the gentle sea breeze blowing in the screened door, anything would taste good.

I love how simple this is. I think pies and casseroles are a bit much. I like food more in its natural state. Plus, I hate having leftovers for days. You always eat the best looking food!

Thank you for sharing such beautiful photos. There seems to be this special atmosphere during Thanksgiving dinners that I can't describe, but that I'm very much drawn to! Oh, how I wish that we had something like a Thanksgiving here in Norway...

We had a pretty simple Thanksgiving, as well this year. Simple is good, don't you think?

I really loved your European posts, but I have to say, I love your posts from home even more. Not sure why, but they're just so comfortable :-)
