I spent a lone weekend wandering around Madrid.

Admittedly it felt a little strange in the beginning, but I quickly adjusted and sank into the groove of it.

I drank sangria. I ate manchego cheese; a lot of it. I died a little over a flamenco ballet (complete with classical Spanish guitar and breathtaking dresses). I walked until my feet refused to walk anymore. I stared at Dalí and Picasso paintings until I was no longer welcome (in the incredible Reina Sofía museum). I mastered the art of eating alone (finally). I turned 22.

It was special. I think I'll always remember it.

Aw, happiest birthday wishes, miss Olivia! I hope you searched for a cupcake, or at the very least, drank an extra glass of that sangria.

As a British expat living in Spain, I can fully understand your love for this gorgeous country. In fact it's one of the few countries where I find it easy for a woman to eat alone. It's not so easy in London!
Happy Birthday too x

Traveling alone can be tough and intimidating, but it's such a wonderful thing to do. Kudos to you for doing it! Madrid is one of my favorite cities in Spain, I like it much more than Barcelona. These pictures really bring me back there!

Happy Birthday! Sounds as if it was a lovely weekend. Traveling alone sounds exhilirating, and Madrid only looks lovelier.

Seems like usually you don't spend a lot of time alone;).
I'm used to it, eat alone most of the time and take pictures of food in restaurants which makes me look even more weird;)).

I so admire you for travelling alone. I think it's pretty cool. I've never been a big fan of travelling because I'm such a home bird. But hearing your stories and looking at your pictures gives me itchy feet!

Hope you're having a wonderful time.
