Lately I've been a little restless. This weird transitional time is exciting and what I've been looking forward to my entire life (no more school, ever!), but also scary and easy to over-analyze. I'm guilty of putting too much pressure on myself and consequently feeling helplessly overwhelmed.

Given my current state of over-thinking, I've been having multiple life-changing realizations a day -- one being that good friends are not overrated. Seems obvious, but I've gone through phases of my life when friends weren't a priority. Relationships, work, school, and a million other things can take precedence. But I've realized that good friends aren't just an occasional luxury, they're an absolute necessity.
Yesterday afternoon, what was meant to be a quick stop to say hi to Ben turned into four hours of glorious relaxation on the porch. Turns out, good friends paired with hours of talking and giggling, crispy roasted vegetables*, and idyllic spring weather was exactly what I needed.
*Ben (apprehensively) roasted carrots and potatoes in lots of olive oil and sea salt at a high temperature, so they were crispy and chip-like and all kinds of delicious. Hailey and I were blown away and emptied the bowl in minutes.

I'm excited to see what your next steps are, but I understand the apprehension and pressure. I am the queen of over-analysis!
Your friends make such a lovely couple! This is totally random but they each kind of look like the couple from The Notebook!
Second last picture is adorable. They're a totally adorable couple. Also, your sweater is gorgeous. And those veggies! Mmm. xo
I so agree! relationships are a necessity- they enhance our lives, what would they be if we didn't have them???
idyllic spring weather! roasted vegetables! friends! my, what a fine life you are living.
oh and i didn't see it at first but maybe with long hair on her, they would look like the notebook couple!
Yum! What temperature did he roast them at? I'd love to know the recipe :)
Just stick it out, I'm two years out of college and STILL confused about what the next steps are. But you have good friends and great family so you will be fine. Go with the flow and appreciate the beauty around you!
I like this post a lot. For lots of reasons:) Sounds like a good recipe, I miss my brother, and I've totally been there Olivia. Deep breaths, lots of walks, and cut yourself plenty of slack. xox
your posts never fail to make me smile. you have such a joy for life, i love it!
beautiful photos, as always.
this post made me really happy for some reason. and actually really jealous because i am in LA and our weather isn't even that beautiful right now!!
I understand over-thinking. I do it all the time.
Sometimes it's good, sometimes...not so much ;)
I think people should spend more time on porches.
The world would be a lovelier place.
Me too! I feel like I have multiple epiphanies about the direction of my life, but they must not be that big because 10 minutes later I can't seem to remember what they were about and phrase them exactly the right way. I also think it's good to appreciate the college friends now. I know in my case it's going to be a lot more difficult to keep in touch in a little over a month, and I need to remember that it IS important to make the effort! As always, I adore your blog : )
It feels like I was there - lovely pictures. Makes me miss my friends as well. Totally agree, necessary for survival.
I wish I could say the over-analyzing ends once you're out of the limbo-phase and have settled into a job, but I definitely still doing it. Keep your friends close, and try to enjoy the uncertainty. It can actually be quite exciting!
I LOVE big porches like that! Sadly there aren't many houses here in Seattle like the big porches you see in your neck of the woods, but when we eventally go to buy a house I am determined to find one!
fist off, i'm going to have to try those carrot and potato chips :) yum!! secondly, "good friends aren't just an occasional luxury, they're an absolute necessity." i'm totally going to borrow that, so very true and well said.
Yummy! I might have to copy Ben's idea for roasted veggies! Friends are definitely a necessity. THe last 2 evenings have been spent with friends and they have been magical.
morgan and jenni - they totally do look like the notebook couple, people actually have told them that before!
I am all about those vegetables... and I have them in the fridge. You just inspired dinner, or rather Ben did.
I graduated three years ago and sat in that same transitional phase. It is weird and there's no way around it. Whether you have a job and a direction or not - life is drastically changing. I'm not a person who loves change. But it can be so freeing to simply be in the moment, letting things happen. Like sitting on a porch for four hours. :)
This looks perfect! Such refreshing and genuine smiles in these pictures!
I genuinely love this post, you look relaxed and happy and I think that says something for how you're balancing life.
those veggies sound like the perfect afternoon snack. and yes, that couple is beyond cute, tell them to go be j crew models already.
Looks like a delicious afternoon!!
your friends look so cute and so in love. great photos!
xx
i've been SUPER appreciative of my friends lately too. they really make life feel full and very happy.
also, i really wanna eat those veggies now!!
You guys look like so much fun. I totally agree, friends are irreplaceable. I've definitely put a greater focus on friends in the past year, and it's made my life many times more vibrant.
Is that a bottle of Pinot Evil wine? One of my favorite $6 bottles. (I'm Sheryl, by the way, and I think your blog is pretty).
absolutely adorable pictures. I am amazed :)
what beautiful friends. :) these photos make me envy the south so much! Its lovely sooo very lovely.
fuckin' cute crop.
Days like those are hard to come by & wonderful when they happen :)
I spent some time living in the southern united states where porches seem to be as prevalent on houses as roofs (which was a bit different having grown up in California) and I must say my future home will be equipped with a porch to help have afternoons like the one you had with your friends.
Your gf looks like Rachel McAdams from The notebook!
Gorgeous ladies in all of your posts. :)
Enjoy the transitional stage.
Take time off. Travel more. Love more. Worry less.
You'll look back & be glad you did.
(took a year off 2 years back & was the best decision I've made!)
Anyway, sending you tonnes of sunshine from
Singapore! <3
gorgeous little photo essay of your friendship with both of those beautiful people. so sweet. and DAMN those roasties look good, girl! i have no doubt you'll embrace this next chapter of your life with the same grace and humor you've met everything with all this time.
