I have never eaten an oreo and thought, "Wow, that was the perfect amount of icing!" Instead, oreos consistently leave me feeling unsatisfied and covered in chocolate crumb-dust.

The remedy? Homemade oreos, with as much icing as my heart desires.

I used Deb's recipe, which is simple and perfect as is (my cookies look different because I used dark cocoa powder). I took her advice to cut out a half cup of sugar in the cookies to make them more wafer-like instead of overwhelmingly sweet. Sprinkling sea salt on the icing is key (as always, in my book). They keep well in the fridge and I actually like them better chilled.
Store-bought oreos will never be the same. Don't say I didn't warn you.

you have truly spoken to my heart.
triple-stuffed homemade oreos?! perfection! and with my love for oreos, i'm wondering why i never thought to make them myself. i need to try these as soon as possible...sigh.
i will buy you a bakery here in germany/austria and pay you to run it if i can get things like this for free.
Jenni... deal! :)
Ah I used this recipe too and absolutely loved it! And you're so right - store bought Oreos just don't suffice anymore. I also tried mixing some peanut butter into the icing which I highly suggest if you find yourself whipping another batch of these up anytime soon!

i love these cookies! i made these for my students right before christmas holidays and some ate all three cookies in quick succession and were consequently running around the classroom with an enormous sugar high!
