last year when i moved into a really cute yet semi-questionable part of town, two things greatly affected my decision: five loaves cafe, the adorable restaurant where tyler now works, and sugar, an amazing little bakery. although it probably isn't the smartest idea in the world to live right across the street from your favorite bakery, i loved every minute of it. the two owners are the nicest guys in the world, and they do everything right. it perfectly blends the feeling of your grandmother's kitchen and the trendiest spot in brooklyn. the shabby chic decor with exposed brick is enough to make me swoon... add the lady baltimore cupcakes, the lavender truffles and the ginger molasses cookies and i knew my heart would forever belong to sugar.
we also fell in love with this pretty yellow tree right out front...

mmm!!! I now live in California, but I'm originally from Charleston and went to grad school at MUSC. I LIVED on Sugar, and boy oh boy do I miss them so much!!! They are my favorite! their classic vanilla cupcake is my absolute favorite, and the lemon curd is a close second...
Eat a few cupcakes and a ginger molasses cookie for me, and tell the guys hello. There is nothing even close to them in San Francisco! ;)
